01/26/2009 Ron just sent us a great email and a couple photos from rides with his Eurocross.

As I was riding along on the 2nd annual Yeti Ride, my friend said to
me "I bet Mr. Steelman would sure be proud to see that bike looking
like that". He was referring to the powder snow that had slowly
accumulated on my Steelman Eurocross during the course of our 2 hour
New Years day ride. I think the perception here in working town
middle America is that rich folks in bigger cities buy fancy name
bikes with big price tags like Steelman, Vanilla, etc. and then just
basically baby them to death, not really putting them through the
paces. I suppose there is some truth to that theory, but hopefully
only a little. In any case, my Steelman has lived a good life, full
of adventure and happy times.

Going on 8 years this Spring, my Steelman Eurocross is still a crowd
favorite here in Wenatchee. It has taken me everywhere, including
mountain bike trails that are so steep I sometimes have trouble going
down them on my full suspension, epic road rides, road and cyclocross
races, winter rides in every possible condition, and my favorite,
long mixed pavement and dirt road rides that start at 4 a.m. on a
warm summer day. Home by 10 a.m. with a grin that lasts for a week
until we do it again. I truly love my Steelman, and would not change
a thing about it. If I ever break it I'll cry.

I'm in the midst of planning a bike camping trip for this summer to
either the Olympic Penninsula (on back roads and dirt roads only), or
a similar adventure in and around Mt. Rainier, St Helens and Mt.
Adams, kind of a 3 volcano tour. I have a dedicated camping bike
with full front and rear racks (early 90's gary fisher mtb.) but I'm
thinking the Steelman is going to get the nod for this one. I just
can't stand to leave it behind for a week! Ah, if only I had a
dedicated Steelman touring/cross bike, I could leave this one at home
for a well deserved rest!

Happy New Year!!
